Setting up camp in Rocky Mountain National Park I was greeted with some amazing camp guests. This bull and his harem bedded down not forty yards outside camp each night. The bull bugled all night long warding off other male elk from his cows.
The second to last night I was there, the bull came up twenty-five feet away looking straight at me. I was tucked back in the trees well out of the way of the bull until he decided to come visit. The bull turned, bugled, and then proceeded to walk over to the watering hole near my tent. It was one of those moments I will never forget - far too close to an animal that is far too dangerous.
